The Full Story

About Us

St. Cecilia's Choir of St. Sebastian's Church, is an indirect, off the record continuation of the past Latin Choir of the Church.

The Sinhala Choir

The Sinhala Choir was founded in 1983 during the time of Rev.Fr. Chris Abeyrathne. The choir has no ties to the past Latin Choir nor the current English Choir. Yet its one of the two official choirs at St. Sebastian's.

The English Choir

The English Choir was founded in 2008 during the time of Rev.Fr. Anton Premalal marking the establishment of English Mass services in the Church. The choir was granted the opportunity to sing a communion hymn during special masses such as Christmas, Easter and New Year.

The choir and congregation is aided by the hymnals provided by the St.Philip Neiri's Church, Colombo.  The choir was originally called "The English Choir". Then it was named "Echoes of Heaven". But it merely stayed as the official name. The Choir celebrated its 10th anniversary on 22nd November 2018 under the name of "St. Cecilia's English Choir".

In the same year(2018), the logo of the choir was designed, and was later modified into a more symmetrical design in 2020. During the 14th anniversary of the Choir, it was consecrated  as "The St. Cecilia's Choir of St. Sebastian's Church, Enderamulla". The choir thrives in its own glory, maturing and advancing in a brisk pace with the guidance of the current choir leader.

2018-2021

Since the founding of the choir in 2008 up untill 2018, there's no record about the choir having any type of logo. The above version was designed for the 10th anniversary celebration of the Choir.

Taking much inspiration from the previous logo, the new design was remodeled to have a more bisymmetric shape. The crotchets on the background of the logo was replaced by two quavers depicting notes A and C, symbolizing "Anima Christi" - Soul of Christ.
